XYZprinting Handheld 3D Scanner comes in at a price point under $500. While this is one of the lesser expensive models on the market, it gives you features that you would expect to see in higher priced equipment.

In order to create a good quality but low cost scanner, XYXprinting collaborated with Intel and more specifically, their RealSense 3D camera technology. The Intel camera that is built in gives you very accurate, full color scans, and makes it very easy for you to capture objects with all of their original intensity and brightness, a feat that many models in this price range don’t come close to achieving.

The camera’s advanced depth sensing technology will enable you to create high quality replicas of your object, and if the image weren’t enough, the software makes it very easy for you to edit and even enhance your original scan. The scanner is integrated with the company’s 3D printer, so once you’re ready you can quickly share or print your models digitally.

The scanner also enables you to scan an object of any shape and size. It streamlines the entire process so even those new to 3D scanning will find it easy to use. The portable size allows you to easily hold it in your hand during use or clip it onto your laptop.

Maximum scan volume is 2m X 2m X 2m with a minimum scan volume of 0.1m X 0.1m X 0.1m. Depth image capabilities are 640 X 480, and color image size is 1080p. The scanner is supported by Windows 8.1 (32 bit or 64 bit), and has an accuracy of 1.0mm. You can easily upload into a number of formats including STL, PLY, and OBJ.

For the price, and the features, this is a good one to try, particularly if you are relatively new to 3D scanning and want something that gives you optimal results while still being relatively easy to use. Getting started is quick and easy as well. You can be set up and ready to capture your first scan in just a few minutes.
